Hello there!
I'm Sarah, pretty much your average 28 year-old female. I like baking pies, watching trashy television shows, and shoe shopping. And like all other individuals in their late 20's, I've gained a passion or two in life. My poison of choice? Family Life - from dating to parenting. I firmly believe that "no success can compensate for failure in the home," and because we were all born into families (even if it was an absent one), and we will all be navigating the dating/marriage world at some point, I feel like we should know all the information we can about it - from valid, reliable sources.
As I continue to work toward a degree in marriage and family therapy, I spend a lot of time looking at how research fares against popular culture in topics of love, family and sex, and I've found some interesting stuff. Often times those posts that go around Facebook have some sketchy data in them, and I feel obligated to share with the world what research is actually telling us. You'll find that I do have a bias here at Aves & Apis - just like every other researcher. But my goal is to always support my posts with peer reviewed articles, while presenting them in my own way: with simplicity, logic, and hopefully a little good-natured sarcasm.
Because of the sensitivity of these subjects, remember that I'm never looking to offend or condemn the life choices of others. My goal is to post messages of hope and truth. Keep in mind that all research reports on trends and averages. They report correlations between behaviors, not causation. Just because two things go together, does not mean that one causes the other, or that the data is absolute.
I hope this is helpful, and/or interesting to some of you. Email me with questions or comments. I'd love to research anything you may be wondering about, or clarify anything I left out. Happy reading!
